Is it permissible for a Muslim woman to inherit from her deceased Christian mother, and does the ruling differ if she is in need or for the purpose of establishing a project?

The majority view is that a Muslim does not inherit from a disbeliever, based on the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "A Muslim does not inherit from a disbeliever, nor does a disbeliever inherit from a Muslim." However, another group has held that a Muslim does inherit from their disbelieving relative who is not a belligerent, interpreting the Hadith to refer specifically to the belligerent disbeliever. They supported this by citing that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) treated hypocrites as Muslims in matters of inheritance. This latter opinion is more preferable as it encourages the disbeliever to embrace Islam.
