Does a divorce occur if a man falsely swears by divorce to escape an embarrassing situation, then discovers he was mistaken?

The majority of scholars hold that swearing by divorce results in divorce when the sworn-upon condition occurs. This is contrary to the view of Ibn Taymiyyah, who holds that if the intention was not divorce but rather intimidation or emphasis, then an expiation for an oath (kaffarat yamin) is due, and no divorce occurs. However, if a person swears, believing what he swore upon to be true, and then it becomes clear that it is otherwise, the preponderant view with us is that divorce does not occur in this situation.
