How does one sit for a brief pause during prayer?

Most jurists have held that the nature of the rest-sitting (jalsat al-istirahah) is, in terms of duration and posture, like the sitting between the two prostrations. Jurists have differed regarding the prescribed manner of sitting in prayer. The Shafi'is and Hanbalis are of the view that tawarruk is recommended in the final tashahhud, and iftirash in the remaining sittings, which is the preferred opinion. Whereas the Hanafis differentiated between men and women, prescribing iftirash for men and tawarruk for women in all sittings. The Malikis, on the other hand, stated that tawarruk is recommended in all sittings for both men and women equally.
