Do the noble recording angels record the good deeds of a supplication made in secret, even though they do not know the Unseen? And do angels raise concealed supplications? And is it better to vocalize acts of remembrance or to perform them silently?

Allah Almighty knows what goes on in the chest and what a servant thinks or supplicates in his heart without uttering it, for He, glory be to Him, knows the secret and what is even more hidden. As for the angels, they do not know the unseen except what Allah has informed them of. Scholars differed regarding the angels' recording of the heart's remembrance. Some said they do not record it because no one but Allah can perceive it, while others said they do record it, and Allah provides them with a sign by which they recognize it, and this is the correct view.

If what is meant by "secret" is what the servant utters secretly with the movement of his tongue and lips without sound, then the angels record that and raise it along with the servant's deeds.

As for the prescribed remembrances and supplications: It is better to recite them aloud so that the reciter can hear himself. There is no harm in raising one's voice or in lowering it. However, they are not valid if they are not uttered verbally. Scholars have agreed that nothing of the reported remembrances is counted for the one remembering until he utters them verbally.
