What is the ruling on perfuming the house where a mother is observing her iddah after the death of the father?

A woman in her 'iddah (waiting period) is not permitted to use perfume or fragrance except after she has become ritually pure from menstruation, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "She should not touch perfume except when she becomes pure [from menstruation], a little qist or azfar." Perfume is forbidden for her because it invites marriage proposals, and she is prohibited from this [during her 'iddah] as a preventive measure to block the means [to something forbidden]. As for perfuming the house where she resides to remove an odor or simply for pleasantness, there is no harm in that, provided she does not believe that it repels the evil eye or brings good fortune, as this would be an innovation (bid'ah).
