What is the ruling on a woman remaining perfumed to receive her mahrams or foreign guests in the home?

It is permissible for a woman to wear perfume in the presence of her mahram relatives or within her home, based on the Almighty's saying: "And not display their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers..." (Quran 24:31) Perfume is considered adornment. However, for her to wear perfume and go out of her house, passing by non-mahram men, is prohibited, due to the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) saying: "Any woman who perfumes herself and passes by people so they may perceive her fragrance is an adulteress." If she perfumes herself in her home and a non-mahram man enters and perceives the scent of the perfume, there is no sin upon her. However, it is not permissible for her to mix with a non-mahram man in such a way that he smells her perfume. If there is a need for her to be in the same place, she must remove the trace of the perfume before meeting him.
