Is there a disagreement among scholars regarding the ruling on listening to music, or have they all agreed on its prohibition? And what is the ruling on attending weddings and events where there is unmixed music, if not attending would anger the father and be considered a severing of family ties?

Among the circumstances that waive the obligation to accept an invitation is the presence of an obvious vice that the invited person knows about before attending, such as the use of musical instruments. If the invited person knows that he is unable to change the vice, then he should not accept the invitation. The jurists have agreed that in such a case, accepting the invitation is not obligatory, because the host has forfeited his own sanctity by committing the vice. Some jurists, like the Shafi'is, even hold that accepting the invitation is forbidden, unless the invited person knows that by his presence he can remove the vice, in which case attendance becomes obligatory for that purpose. It is appropriate to inform one's father and relatives of this ruling gently, kindly, and wisely. It is not part of filial piety to obey one's father in an act of disobedience to Allah Almighty.
