How authentic is the Hadith: "O son of Adam, you invoked against him who wronged you, and he whom you wronged invoked against you. If you wish, We shall answer you and answer against you. And if you wish, We shall postpone both of you until the Hereafter, and My forgiveness will encompass both of you"?

This report attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is very weak. It includes Ibrahim bin Zayd Al-Aslami, whom Ibn Hibban described as "very much a denier of hadith," and it is not permissible to use his narrations as evidence. This report has also been narrated from the words of Yazid bin Maysara, but its chain of transmission is not without weakness in some of its narrators. Nevertheless, the report indicates that the oppressed person might be an oppressor from another perspective, and it highlights the virtue of pardoning and forgiving wrongdoers, and that forgiveness is hoped to be a cause for Allah's forgiveness and mercy, for "recompense is of the same nature as the deed."
