What is the fate of the child born to a wife from adultery, and is it permissible for the husband to raise him after divorcing the wife and being unable to identify the real father?

The general rule is that a child is attributed to the husband who is the master of the marital bed. It is not permissible for the husband to disavow the child's lineage unless he is certain that the child is not his, or if he strongly believes so based on compelling evidence. A condition for disavowing the child from the husband is immediate action and promptness. If a period of time passes after the husband learns of the birth or pregnancy, and he has no valid excuse for delaying the disavowal, his right to disavow the child is forfeited.

The wife's confession of adultery does not benefit the husband in disavowing lineage; rather, li'an (oath of condemnation) is necessary to disavow it. If he does not perform li'an, the child is attributed to him.

If the husband has a valid excuse for delaying the disavowal, he must disavow the lineage of this child through li'an, and the child will be attributed to its mother. If he has no excuse, then the child is legally attributed to him and attached to him, and he has the rights of a son in terms of prohibitions, inheritance, maintenance, and other matters. It is not permissible to differentiate between him and his other siblings. The adulterer is not the child's legal father, and the child is not attributed to him. It is commendable for the husband to raise a child who has no father, and he will be rewarded for it.
