Is the practice of a group of sheikhs reciting the Qur’an in unison on certain occasions, and placing sugar in front of them then distributing it to attendees as a blessing, considered a blameworthy innovation (bid‘ah)?

It was not reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, or his Companions that they would complete a reading of the Qur’an (khatm al-Qur’an) upon purchasing a new house. Assembling to read the Qur’an in a specific manner for which there is no religious evidence is considered an innovation (bid‘ah), especially what was mentioned about bringing shaykhs and them reading in unison, and placing and distributing sugar. This is a practice for which there is no evidence, and a Muslim should avoid it.
