Is reading the Qur’an in congregation in this manner at funerals and occasions, and on agricultural land to seek blessings, Islamically permissible, or is it a reprehensible innovation (bid'ah sayyi'ah)?

Gathering to complete a recitation of the Qur’an upon a person's death, or when building a house, or starting a project, is an innovation (bid'ah) that has no basis in the teachings of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor from any of the Imams. Any action that contravenes the guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is rejected for its doer. "And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you from, abstain from it." "Whoever introduces into this matter of ours anything that does not belong to it, it will be rejected." "The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a misguidance."

Those who engage in such practices must be advised to desist from them, for all good lies in following the guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Whatever contradicts the Sharia is devoid of good and blessing. Among the means of sustenance and blessing is the fear of Allah Almighty: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect."
