Is a person considered disobedient to their parents if they fall short in their studies due to obsessive thoughts (waswas) related to purity and impurity, and resort to equivocation when asked about their studies for fear of their anger and their accusing religiosity and scholars?

The questioner is advised to stay away from obsessive thoughts related to purity and prayer, and to frequently supplicate and seek refuge with Allah from Satan. He must strive and exert effort in his studies because it is religiously required and pleases his mother. As for Tawriya (ambiguity/equivocation), it is permissible for a preponderant legitimate interest, such as telling the mother something that differs from reality to avoid her anger or her having a negative perception of religion and scholars. In this case, the son is not considered disobedient. The mother should be gently advised about the importance of adhering to Allah's commands.
