What is the ruling on trading in glass bottles containing real dead snakes preserved in a liquid?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The majority of scholars hold that it is forbidden to benefit from carrion in any way, based on the generality of Allah's saying, the Most High: "Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine..." [Al-Ma'idah:3]. However, some have permitted benefiting from the hide of a dead animal after tanning, and from its wool, hair, bones, and horns, if the animal was permissible to eat. This does not apply to snakes. Therefore, it is not permissible to decorate places with dead snakes or to trade in them.
