Are the two reported narrations authentic: "Whoever prays with a river, a wall, or a road between him and the Imam, has not prayed with the Imam" attributed to Umar ibn al-Khattab, and Aisha's statement "Do not pray with the Imam's prayer, for you are behind him in a partition"? And can it be inferred from them that women are not permitted to pray in enclosed prayer areas?

These two narrations (athar) are weak: The first is from Umar ibn al-Khattab concerning the invalidity of the prayer of one who prays with a river, wall, or road between him and the Imam, and the other is from Aisha, in which she prohibited women who were praying in her chamber from praying with the Imam's prayer. They cannot be relied upon to rule on the issue of women praying in enclosed prayer areas due to their weakness, and because they do not include women's prayer areas within mosques, which are considered part of the mosque. The basic principle is the permissibility of a follower (ma'mum) following the Imam even if there is a barrier between them, provided that following is possible, especially if the follower is inside the mosque, whether he sees the Imam or not. This is what the people of knowledge act upon.
