What is the ruling on taking a few hairs from the beard?

Scholars have agreed upon the impermissibility of shaving the beard and the impermissibility of trimming it if it is less than a fistful. Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on trimming what exceeds a fistful, and the most preponderant opinion is the impermissibility of trimming it whatsoever, neither from its length nor its width; rather, it should be left as it is. This is the apparent meaning of the Prophetic narrations that command its growth and letting it hang down. The beard is what grows on the cheeks and chin, and the hair growing on it must be left untouched, neither shaved nor cut.
