Did any scholar permit shaving the beard to less than shaving the roots?

Early scholars did not explicitly state the permissibility of trimming the beard if it was less than a fistful. The majority of jurists hold that shaving the beard is forbidden due to its contradiction of the prophetic command to let it grow. The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded the growing of beards and the opposing of polytheists and Magians. A believer hastens to obey his command and does not seek an escape. Hastening to obey the command of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is a path to salvation, as stated in the Almighty's words: (And if they had done what they were admonished thereby, it would have been better for them and a firmer strengthening. And then We would have given them from Us a great reward. And We would have guided them to a straight path.) When scholars delve into a matter, they do not intend to discourage it, but rather to understand the consequences of abandoning it. A Muslim should be sincere in his search for the truth to follow it and act upon it, not to seek concessions.
