What is the reason for the revelation of Surat Al-Kafirun, and what is its story?

Surat Al-Kafirun was revealed to reject the offer of the disbelievers of Quraish that they would worship Allah and agree with the Prophet, peace be upon him, on condition that he participate with them in worshipping their false deities. Thus, the surah came to cut off any negotiations that would not lead to the complete monotheism of Allah. Several narrations have been reported regarding the reason for its revelation, including Quraish's offer to the Prophet of wealth and marriage in exchange for him ceasing to speak ill of their deities, or that they would worship his God for a year and he would worship their deities for a year. Although the chains of transmission of some of these narrations are individually weak, they strengthen each other collectively and bear witness to one another, aligning with the apparent meaning of the Holy Quran.

The interpretation of the surah indicates that Allah commanded His Prophet to inform the polytheists who asked him to worship their deities for a year, that he does not worship what they worship of gods and idols, neither now nor in the future, and that they too will not worship what he worships. This address was directed to specific polytheists whom Allah knew would never believe, to make them despair of any hope of compromise, and for the Prophet to despair of their belief.
