If a dog sniffs the clothes of a praying person without licking them, do they become impure?

The saliva of a dog, the moisture from its nose, and everything that comes out of it is impure (najis). So, if a dog sniffs a person's garment and some of that impurity clings to it, the garment must be washed seven times, one of which is with earth (dust). This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "If a dog licks a vessel belonging to one of you, he must wash it seven times, the first of them with earth." However, if the dog sniffs the garment from a distance without touching it, or touches it with a dry part of its body without any of its saliva or nasal discharge clinging to it, then there is no need to wash the garment. This is because the mere contact of a solid impurity with something similar does not render it impure. This applies according to those who hold the view that the dog itself is impure.
