Is it permissible to eat meat and poultry in Far Eastern countries like China?
Islam has permitted from the sacrifices of the disbelievers only the sacrifices of the People of the Book, based on His — the Most High’s — saying: "The food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you." It is stipulated that the animal slaughtered must not have been killed in a way that violates Islamic law, such as by electrocution or strangulation. If the majority of the residents of a neighborhood are Muslims or People of the Book and they slaughter according to the prescribed method, then it is permissible to eat their meat. However, if the majority of them are Majus (Zoroastrians) or atheists, then it is not permissible to eat their sacrifices unless it is known that they were slaughtered by a Muslim or a person from the People of the Book and according to the Islamic method.
