Is it a condition for the continuous fasting of two months that it be according to the Hijri months, or by the number of sixty days, and what is considered for calculating the two halves if the fasting began from the middle of the month?

The two months refer to two Hijri months. Whoever fasts for two consecutive months falls into two categories:

- If one begins fasting from the beginning of the month, fasting for two months by sighting of the moon suffices, whether the months are complete (30 days) or incomplete (29 days).

- If one begins fasting during the middle of a month, some say that sixty days of fasting are required. Others say that the month one started fasting from its beginning, whether complete or incomplete, suffices, and the second month is completed to thirty days. This is the view of the majority of scholars.
