The splint or bandage should only cover the wound and not extend beyond the necessary area, unless it is needed to secure it. If the splint extends beyond the necessary area, the excess should be removed if possible without harm. Otherwise, the entire splint should be wiped over without the need for tayammum if there is difficulty. If a bandage that only covers the wound is available, it must be used. If only a larger bandage is available and requires an extra part to secure it, there is no harm in using it and wiping over it.
