What is your opinion on someone who shies away from reading the books of contemporary da‘is (preachers/callers to Islam) and limits themselves to the books of the Salaf (early Muslims), and what is the correct perspective for combining the books of the Salaf with the books of contemporary da‘is and thinkers?

The Sheikh believes that acquiring knowledge of the دعوة (Islamic propagation/call) should first come from the Quran and Sunnah, then from what has been narrated from the Rightly Guided Caliphs, the Companions, and the Imams of Islam. As for the words of later scholars and contemporaries, they deal with newly emerging matters of which they had more knowledge, and their books can be benefited from in these aspects. Therefore, he advocates combining the two approaches: relying first on the Quran and Sunnah, then on the words of the pious predecessors (Salaf Saliḥ), and then on the writings of contemporaries concerning new issues that were not specifically known to the predecessors.
