How do we respond to those who bully the people of Ta'if and describe them as bigoted and troublemakers, citing the beating of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, even though "no soul shall bear the burden of another"?

It is not permissible to denigrate the people of Ta'if or any other tribes or cities because a servant is not held accountable for the misdeeds of another. Even if their ancestors harmed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as Allah Almighty said: "And every soul earns not [anything] except for itself, and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another." Denigrating an entire tribe is a fabrication and a great sin. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade reviling the dead so that the living would not be harmed. So how about reviling a living person for a crime he did not commit? The people of Ta'if embraced Islam, and among them were Companions and Mujahideen. Quraysh themselves disbelieved the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then embraced Islam, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, placed the Caliphate among them.
