Is it permissible to perform a surgical operation to reduce a broad nose that causes its owner psychological distress and nervous tension and negatively affects his social and professional life?

If psychological harm due to a disfigured nose reaches the level of severe disfigurement, its owner is permitted to undergo a procedure to restore the nose to its natural shape, not for increasing beauty but for removing harm. It is recommended to occupy oneself with seeking knowledge and increasing good deeds, for the Muslim's elevation lies in faith and piety, as stated in His — the Almighty's — saying: (Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you), and His saying: (Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees), and the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever treads a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise..."
