Is it permissible to have sexual intercourse before going to Hajj, and what must the Meccan pilgrim do before Hajj and during its days?

Sexual intercourse before assuming ihram for Hajj is permissible; in fact, some scholars even deem it recommended, especially for those who find abstaining from it difficult. Once a person assumes ihram, sexual intercourse and other ihram prohibitions become forbidden. If someone engages in sexual intercourse before the first 'tahallul' (partial release from ihram restrictions), their Hajj becomes invalid. As for what a person in ihram is permitted to do during the days of Hajj, it is everything except what the Law has prohibited, such as removing hair or nails, using perfume, wearing tailored clothes, covering the head (for men), hunting, contracting marriage, and sexual intimacy with women. The person in ihram should also avoid idle talk and disputation, and instead engage frequently in the remembrance of Allah and righteous deeds.
