Why did the first man who offered a fly go to Hell? Was he not compelled to do so?

The aforementioned hadith (definition) has been criticized with defects that undermine the authenticity of its ascription to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Albani authenticated it as mawquf (a saying of a Companion) attributed to Salman al-Farisi, and he favored the view that it is from the Israʼiliyyat (reports from Jewish or Christian sources). Even assuming its authentic ascription to the Prophet, there is no contradiction between it and the excuse of coercion, because the excuse of coercion is specific to this Ummah (Muslim community), whereas previous nations were required to be patient.
