Amr ibn al-As, whose kunyas were Abu Abdullah and Abu Muhammad, embraced Islam before the conquest of Mecca. He was a man of sound judgment, shrewdness, resolve, competence, and was insightful in warfare. He was among the nobles of the Arabs and the prominent Muhajireen. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, praised him, describing him as one of the righteous among Quraysh. He passed away in Egypt on the night of Eid al-Fitr in the year 43 AH.
