Does divorce occur by gesture??? Or by writing and utterance???

Divorce occurs through writing with the intention of divorce, according to the majority of scholars. As for gesturing, divorce does not occur through it except from a mute person who is unable to speak, in which case their gesture takes the place of speech. However, for one who is able to speak, their divorce by gesture is not valid.
