Is a person rewarded for lowering their gaze with the intention of safeguarding his fiancée and that God may safeguard her for him, or must the intention be purely for God alone?

Upon commencing any righteous deed, a Muslim must intend to please Allah and attain His reward. This is sincerity (ikhlas), upon which the acceptance of deeds is based. Allah Almighty says: "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincerely obedient to Him, inclining to truth." And a Muslim's love for the positive consequences of a righteous deed does not contradict sincerity, for the Lawgiver has encouraged some righteous deeds by mentioning their beloved effects. Allah Almighty says: "And let those [therein] fear who, if they left behind them weak offspring, would fear for them. So let them fear Allah and speak words of appropriate counsel." An example of this is Muhammad ibn Sirin's statement to his son: "O my son, I prolong my prayer hoping that I will be preserved in you," and he recited His saying, exalted be He: "And their father was righteous."
