What is the ruling on my riding for free with my relative who works as a collector in public transportation, and does sin fall upon me or him, knowing that I have given charity equivalent to the price of the tickets?

If the collector is authorized to exempt some passengers from paying the fare, then there is no blame on him or on the beneficiary. However, if he is not authorized, then he is not permitted to do so, because it is a betrayal of trust. The beneficiary must pay the ticket price to the competent authority, and donating it as charity does not suffice. The employee must pay what the beneficiary did not pay, so that he may be absolved of responsibility, for Allah commands the fulfillment of trusts, and the worker is entrusted with his work. Rights do not expire with the passage of time; rather, they are rendered to their owners or taken from his good deeds on the Day of Resurrection.
