Is it permissible for a husband to divorce his wife who repeatedly leads him to disobedience, despite his persistent advice, given that they have two daughters and he fears for their upbringing after the divorce?
Allah Almighty has given men authority over their families due to theفضل (excellence/privilege) He has granted them over women, and because they spend [on them]. Therefore, a man must attend to their religious and worldly interests. The husband must invite his wife to goodness with gentleness, kindness, encouragement, and deterrence, and use all effective means. If she sees steadfastness in his religious commitment and his attention to it, she will respond. The husband must also be a proponent of goodness for himself and his family. We do not advise divorcing the wife as long as there is hope for her rectification, but rather to continue inviting her, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "For Allah to guide one man through you is better for you than red camels." And the people most deserving of invitation and righteousness are the family members.
