The answer

If a man has not divorced his wife more than twice, he may take her back after the second divorce. The 'raj'ah' (revocation of divorce) is valid even without the wife's knowledge, and there is no sin in not informing her. However, if the woman marries another man after her 'iddah' (waiting period) has expired, without knowing of the 'raj'ah': if the first husband had two just witnesses to the 'raj'ah', then the second marriage is invalid, and she remains under his marital bond. But if he has no proof of the 'raj'ah', and both spouses admit to the 'raj'ah', the wife returns to him. In this case, he still has one divorce remaining. The matter should be referred to the Sharia court for consideration.
