What is the recompense for one who betrays a trust, sells evidence to his client's adversaries, and consumes people's wealth unjustly?

Trustworthiness is of great importance. Islamic law has urged its fulfillment and warned against its betrayal. Allah the Almighty says: "Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due." The Hadith (definition) states: "He has no faith who has no trustworthiness, and he has no religion who has no covenant." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, made the betrayal of trust a sign of hypocrisy, saying: "The signs of a hypocrite are three: whenever he speaks, he tells a lie; whenever he promises, he breaks his promise; and whenever he is entrusted, he betrays his trust." The betrayal of trust is a sign of hypocrisy, and it may extend to major hypocrisy. If a person has taken money through his betrayal, it is illicit gain (suht), and an increase in sin. There is no harm in supplicating against him and suing him.
