What is trustworthiness, what is the punishment for betraying it, how does one repent from it, and what are the proofs for that from the Qur’an and Sunnah?

In Islamic law, "amanah" (trust) has two meanings: a general one that encompasses all the commands and prohibitions of Islamic law, and a specific one that includes everything a person must preserve and fulfill regarding the rights of others, such as deposits, secrets, and responsibilities. It is obligatory to safeguard and fulfill trusts, and it is forbidden to squander or betray them, as this is considered a sign of hypocrisy and one of the major sins. Repentance from betraying a trust is obligatory. If the trust relates to the rights of Allah, then in addition to repentance, compensation for the squandering is required. However, if it relates to the rights of people, then the right must be fulfilled or forgiveness and pardon sought.
