Who are those who wronged themselves and whose dwellings people inhabited, as mentioned in His exalted saying: "And you inhabited the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it became clear to you how We dealt with them, and We presented for you examples"?
Al-Qurtubi said in his Tafsir: "And you inhabited the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it became clear to you how We dealt with them, and We presented to you the examples." This means inhabiting the lands of Thamud and the like, and it is a reprimand for not taking heed from what befell them after Allah's action against them became clear and examples were presented in the Quran. Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami's recitation is "وَنُبَيِّنَ لكم" (and We make clear to you) with the nun and jazm, which is similar in meaning to "وتبين" (and it became clear) because clarification is not complete except through Allah's clarification.
