What is the ruling regarding someone who suffers from obsessive doubts (waswasa) about the presence of the name of Allah (Jalalah) on papers and products, and is it obligatory for him to search and scrutinize them? What should he do if he sees others acting carelessly towards this? And is his going out for entertainment considered forbidden because of these obsessive doubts?

May Allah reward the questioner for her keenness to glorify the name of Allah. It is not permissible to intentionally throw papers containing the name of Allah in the street or in the trash out of disrespect. However, picking them up should not cause hardship or difficulty, for Allah Almighty says: "Allah does not intend to make any difficulty for you." (Quran 5:6). Strictness upon oneself in this matter is a blameworthy form of waswasah (whispering of Satan/obsessive doubt), and it suffices to preserve, burn, or bury what is actually found and seen to contain the name of Allah Almighty, without excessive scrutiny or searching. We advise seeking refuge from waswasah, engaging frequently in dhikr (remembrance of Allah), and occupying oneself. If you see someone being careless with papers that contain the name of Allah, advise them gently. It is not permissible to throw papers on which the Quran and Prophetic hadiths are written into dirty places. It suffices for you to advise against disrespect, and you are not obligated to collect what has been scattered in the streets from such papers, except what is easy to do without hardship.
