What is the ruling regarding blood that a woman experiences intermittently, not exceeding one or two drops a day for three months, knowing that the doctor informed her it is intermittent menstrual blood due to a uterine condition? And must she make up the prayers she missed during this period?
In Arabic, the root of 'menstruation' (الحيض) means 'flowing.' However, if blood comes down as continuous drops, and a doctor states it is menstruation that has not collected in the uterus, it takes the ruling of menstruation. If the woman had a previous regular menstrual cycle before this condition, then that period is considered menstruation, and anything beyond it is abnormal bleeding (istihadah). She must perform ghusl (ritual bath) and pray after that, and perform ablution (wudu) for each prayer if the drops continue to fall. If she did not have a previous regular cycle, she refers to the common practice of most women, which is six or seven days as menstruation, and the rest is istihadah. The woman was obliged to ask about the ruling on prayer during this period. She is not required to make up the prayers she missed due to istihadah; rather, she must repent, seek forgiveness, and increase in supererogatory acts of worship.
