Must a young man who has repented after having an illicit relationship with a married woman reclaim the gifts, clothes, and love letters he gave her and burn them for fear of being held accountable for them? Must he admonish and advise her to repent? Does he owe her husband anything? Is it permissible for him to supplicate against her?

You have done well by repenting. We advise you to do more good deeds and to remain steadfast upon the truth. Establishing a relationship with a foreign woman is a reprehensible act, and even more so if she is married. It is obligatory to be cautious and not to be lenient in dealing with foreign women. You are not obligated to reclaim the gifts or love letters. Any communication with her could be an opening for Satan, and this means must be blocked. Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan - indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure ever, but Allah purifies whom He wills, and Allah is Hearing and Knowing." You must completely avoid her and occupy yourself with what benefits you. Part of perfecting repentance is seeking absolution from the woman's husband, but if it is likely to cause a greater corruption, then suffice with increasing supplication and seeking forgiveness for him. Do not supplicate against her, and focus on yourself by doing good deeds and abandoning reprehensible acts.
