Is it permissible to divorce one's wife due to detesting her, especially given one's feelings of aversion towards her, the deterioration of the marital relationship, and the fear of falling into immorality?

Divorce is permissible, especially if there is a need for it. It may be reprehensible (makrooh) if there is no need, or even forbidden (haram (definition)). Divorce becomes obligatory in specific cases, such as the divorce of the 'muwli' (one who swears not to approach his wife). It is reprehensible without need, permissible when there is a need due to the wife's bad character, and recommended when the wife neglects her duties towards Allah. It is forbidden during menstruation or during a period of purity in which intercourse has occurred. Divorce of the wife is desirable if she persists in neglecting obligatory duties or in chatting with foreign men. If the wife becomes defiant (nashiz) by disobeying, her maintenance ceases, and the husband is permitted to discipline her. It is not permissible to remedy a mistake with another mistake, such as befriending girls or practicing masturbation; rather, repentance from these acts is obligatory. Care should be taken in choosing a wife for her religiosity and character, social differences should be considered, and spouses should live together in kindness.
