Did God permit man to hunt all animals, birds, and fish whose consumption is lawful, or is hunting only permissible for those animals difficult to slaughter due to the difficulty of catching them? Is it permissible to shoot a distant cow after reciting the Tasmiyah, or is that restricted to rabbits, gazelles, and birds?

Animals that are easy to catch and slaughter are not permissible except by means of legal slaughter. As for livestock animals that flee and are difficult to catch, they are treated like game. It is permissible to shoot them with a hunting tool, and merely wounding them in any part of their body is sufficient to make them permissible. This is the view of the majority of scholars.
