Is a marriage that was performed in jest, with witnesses and the bride's guardian present, considered legally valid, based on the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) saying: "There are three things which, whether done seriously or in jest, are considered valid: marriage, divorce, and رجعة (return to a marital relationship after a revocable divorce)"?

A marriage that fulfills its conditions and pillars and is free of impediments is a real, legitimate marriage, even if it was done in jest. However, since the conversation that took place between the questioner and the person mentioned was not attended by the guardian (wali) or his representative, it is not considered a marriage by the majority of scholars. This is because it lacks one of the conditions for the validity of marriage according to the majority, based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "Any woman who marries without the permission of her guardian, her marriage is invalid... (he said it three times)," and his saying: "There is no marriage without a guardian." It is not permissible for a Muslim to toy with religious matters, especially regarding marriage and divorce, for Allah Almighty says: "And do not take the verses of Allah in jest."
