What is reprehensible about a person's boredom with repeatedly eating the same kind of food? And what was the sin and crime of the Children of Israel when they desired a change in their food, considering Allah's saying: "And [recall] when you said, 'O Moses, we can never endure one kind of food'" and His saying: "In them you will have much fruit from which you will eat"?

The Children of Israel requested a change in their food because they grew tired of the "manna and quails" which were provided effortlessly. The reason for the rebuke was their ill manners and obstinacy after disobeying the command to enter the Holy Land. This request came in a stubborn manner, indicating arrogance and impatience. They did not thank Allah; rather, they asked Moses to supplicate to "his Lord" and not "their Lord," as if they were innocent of Him. Furthermore, their request was for foods inferior to the manna and quails. As for requesting a change of food today, if it is not out of ingratitude for the blessing, it is not forbidden, but it goes against the perfection of thanking for it and the guidance of the Prophet, peace be upon him, who never criticized any food. If the request is due to stomach discomfort, then it is excusable.
