Why do I not pray when I hear the Adhan, and why do I recoil from hearing the Quran?
Sins darken the heart and alienate it from good, and may even lead it to abhor the remembrance of Allah, as stated in His glorious words: "And when Allah Alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion." To avoid this, the following is recommended: abandoning sins, especially neglecting prayer, and striving against the self to achieve this with sincerity towards Allah, for Allah guides those who strive for His sake, as stated in His glorious words: "And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways." Also, try to live in a righteous environment different from the one in which sins were habitually committed. If the aversion to the Qur'an persists, one should present oneself to people of righteousness for Ruqyah, as the cause may be a demonic touch.
