The Preserved Tablet is the book in which Allah inscribed the destinies of creation before He created them. Allah has not shown it to any human being, but it is possible for Allah to reveal some of the unseen to whomever of His servants He wishes, through divine revelation to prophets, divine unveilings (mukashafat) and inspirations (ilhamat), and true dreams. A distinction must be made between divine inspirations and satanic suggestions. It must be known that the occurrence of unveilings and divine inspirations does not imply superiority, and that the sole source for understanding legal rulings is the Book of Allah and the of His Messenger, not unveilings and inspirations.
