Is it permissible to recite supplications for distress when not in distress, and do the words "Al-Azim" (the Magnificent) and "Al-Karim" (the Generous) in the supplication "There is no god but Allah, the Magnificent, the Forbearing; there is no god but Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne; there is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens and the earth and Lord of the Generous Throne" refer to Allah or to the Throne?

The supplications reported for distress are good, and there is no harm in repeating them. And the remembrance of "Lā ilāha illallāh (There is no god but Allah)" can be used to begin the supplication, then one supplicates with whatever they wish, or the remembrance itself can be a supplication. As for the words "al-Karīm (the Generous)" and "al-ʿAẓīm (the Mighty)" in the supplication, they have been narrated with a kasra (genitive case) as an attribute of the Throne, and with a ḍamma (nominative case) as an attribute of the Lord, and both forms are permissible.
