Is it permissible to treat Tunisian society as a whole as disbelievers, based on the widespread phenomenon of insulting religion and the Divine Majesty within it, and the ignorance of its consequences, and the necessity of not eating with them, or marrying them, or praying behind their imams?

Belief in Allah the Almighty is founded upon His glorification and veneration, and cursing Allah contradicts this glorification. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah defined cursing as: "Speech intended for disparagement and contempt," and "that which people of custom consider cursing, disparagement, fault-finding, or slander." Cursing Allah the Almighty is the gravest verbal apostasy, and scholars unanimously agree on the apostasy of one who curses Allah the Almighty. It is incumbent upon the Muslim to denounce this grave evil, and it is not permissible for him to sit in a place where Allah the Almighty is cursed or ridiculed; as Allah the Almighty says: "And He has already revealed to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah being denied and ridiculed, do not sit with them until they engage in another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them." The listener does not share in the speaker's apostasy unless he affirms or approves of it, and one whose Islam is established with certainty is not removed from it by doubt.
