Is my feeling of inner contentment despite worldly misfortunes considered apathy, or is it a natural psychological state?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Contentment, tranquility, and inner peace are great blessings from Allah, and they are among the best acts of worship and the highest spiritual stations. They are the fruit of faith and reliance upon Allah, for He (the Most High) said: "No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah. And whoever believes in Allah - He will guide his heart. And Allah is Knowing of all things." (Quran 64:11). These are among the greatest reasons for a servant's happiness in this world and the Hereafter. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the greatness of the reward is proportional to the greatness of the affliction. And indeed, if Allah loves a people, He afflicts them. So whoever is content, then for him is contentment, and whoever is displeased, then for him is displeasure." Contentment is Allah's greatest gate, the paradise of this world, and the resting place of the worshippers. Whoever attains it lives in bliss and joy.
