How do Muslims fast in countries like Norway and Sweden, where the day extends to 20 hours?

God addressed the believers by enjoining fasting, and clarified its beginning and end. He did not particularize this ruling to a specific country or type of people, but rather legislated it as a general law to encompass all lands. He also legislated breaking the fast for the sick and the traveler to alleviate hardship. Therefore, whoever among the mukallafun (accountable individuals) witnesses Ramadan, it is obligatory for him to fast, whether the day is long or short. If he is unable to complete a day's fast and fears death or illness for himself, it is permissible for him to break his fast with what sustains him, then he should abstain for the rest of his day. He must then make up the days he missed on other days. Fasting is obligatory for you even if the day extends to twenty hours, as long as the day is defined and the night is defined, just as fasting is sufficient for you even if the day is only three hours long.
