What is the ruling on dealing with a lazy husband who borrows from people, refuses advice, and quarrels with his wife?

The Shari'ah encourages work and earning a livelihood to meet the necessities of life. This was the guidance of the Prophets, the Companions, and the scholars, so that a Muslim can be honorable and capable of fulfilling his family responsibilities.

Laziness and unemployment lead to people being in need, and a great sin results from them if one neglects spending on their family, as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It is enough sin for a man to neglect those he is responsible to feed."

Borrowing without the intention of repayment is a neglect and a great sin. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever takes people's money with the intention of repaying it, Allah will repay it for him. And whoever takes it with the intention of destroying it, Allah will destroy him." And whoever borrows and does not intend to repay will meet Allah as a thief.

The husband who falls short should be advised gently and kindly. If the wife has money, she will be rewarded for spending on her family. If the husband does not respond, the wife has the right to resort to the competent authorities to remove the harm from her, even if it leads to divorce.
