What is the ruling on cutting the excess skin around the nails and applying nail polish over them?

There is no religious impediment to trimming the excess skin around the nails. Similarly, there is no harm in applying nail polish for adornment, provided it is removed when intending to perform major or minor ritual purification, as it prevents water from reaching the limb.
